I finally decided to try spears after seeing all the hype about them on this sub and the hype is well-deserved. Especially if you're playing on a potato device. My computer barely manages to run Zomboid and my frame rate is really low. By the time the hit outline shows up, the zombie is basically on top of me. You can find bugs at level 4, and more at level 6 I think. Grasshoppers, cockroaches, crickets, and worms. Not sure at which level you can find worms. All of the above are 100% disabled in winter though. In winter all you find is wood and stones. I've not tried fishing with anything but the spear.
