Before taking it to the lake I put the motor in a bucket of water and submerged deep enough to cover the water in-take. Honda has a charging system that you just hook up and go, Yamaha has the charging system, but depending on the model you may need to add a rectifier to hook it to the battery, not a big deal. They will both keep the battery charged while trolling.Put everything back together, the engine started and ran at idle for maybe 3 to 5 seconds and sputtered out. After that it would crank and crank no start. Waited a minute or so started right up ran for a few seconds sputtered out. This sequence repeats every time. Any more suggestions are greatly appreciated.
