The donors were Ghent mayor Jodocus Vijd and his wife Lysbette and the completed piece was unveiled to much excitement on the 6th of May, 1432. Sint Bavo (Baafs) was the patron saint of Ghent in the 6th century. That is the 500s AD (ACE). The ruins of his abbey are also in Ghent but not at the St. Baafs.
